The Government stated that it will partially lift restrictions on places of worship to allow “individual prayers” from 15 June 2020. The primary function of mosques is to facilitate collective worship for the Muslim community. As an organisation which runs a Masjid we recognise that our Place of Worship is primarily to offer collective worship for the Muslim community. Individual prayers can take place at home.
We have been liaising closely with Waltham Forest Council of Mosques (WFCOM), other masjids across London and throughout the UK and medical and legal professionals and muslim scholars for their expert opinions. The majority of masjids are remaining closed in London until there is clear and effective guidance on collective worshipping. Covid-19 remains a threat to the lives of vulnerable people, especially those in BAME (Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic) communities, who have been disproportionally affected. The safety and well-being of our community is the priority at this current moment in time. Therefore, we have decided that we will remain closed to the public for now. By opening now, we will be encouraging people to go out when individual prayers can be performed at home.
